According to the Emory University newspaper, The Emory Wheel, a student claims he was forcibly removed from an off-campus fraternity party over the weekend after admitting he was gay.

The student, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that he was dragged out of a party held at the residence of several Sigma Nu fraternity members on Saturday night. The article reports Adam Smith, a recent graduate, choked and dragged the unnamed student out of the residence by his neck.

Emory student alleges anti-gay physical altercation

“This guy approached me and asked why I was wearing my hat. … I said that I like the hat, just as you like your pink shirt,” the student told the paper.

“He then asked me if I was gay, and I said I was. He then started choking me with his elbow and put me into a head lock, and he dragged me out of the party by my neck.”

According to the article, the altercation also included anti-gay slurs.

Smith claimed that he was provoked after the unnamed student implied that he was gay because of the color of Smith’s shirt. He did admit, however, to physically removing the student from the party.
