LGBTQ honorary grand marshal for Martin Luther King Jr. march, rally selected

From a press release announcing Wright as the grand marshal and speaker:

His politicization hails from his personal experiences navigating Black class struggle in the South and witnessing the resiliency and power of the Black women who reared him.

Over the years, Cortez has focused most of his organizing work on issues of Queer liberation beyond homonormative politics, media representation and creation for queer and trans youth of color, and highlighting the insidious nature of white supremacy as it relates to queer communities and black and brown queer bodies. Cortez spends his spare time envisioning a world where we can love and build relationships in the ways we want, not beholden to systemic, structural injustice.

The theme for this year’s Bayard Rustin/Audre Lorde Breakfast is “Re-Imagining the Dream.”

“In inviting our folks to re-imagine the dream there is the obvious reference to Dr. King’s vision for equality. However the breakfast prioritizes the social justice and community development work of LGBTQ people, centralizing black and other queer people of color,” Craig Washington told the GA Voice.

Following the breakfast, LGBTQ participants will gather at the line-up site on the northeast corner of Peachtree and Ellis streets (same side as Ritz Carlton) at 1:45 p.m. with the MLK March and Rally kicking off at 2 p.m. Immediately following the march, the rally will be held on Auburn Avenue in the King National Park Area.
