Outwrite closes its doors at 10th and Piedmont

The store announced in November it was having to close its doors at the iconic location in the heart of Midtown because of high rent. At this location, the bookstore served not only as a place for purchasing books and author readings but also as an unofficial LGBT community center.

At last night’s “Last Tango,” billed as the store’s last author reading, owner Philip Rafshoon thanked the community for its support and especially thanked his partner, Robert Gaul, for his years of support. See a video of Rafshoon thanking the community here.

Atlanta City Councilmember Alex Wan presented Rafshoon with a city proclamation signed by all of the city council members thanking Rafshoon and Outwrite for its service to the community.
