Polyamory is a concept gaining more acceptance in recent years, and nowhere will that be more clear than at Atlanta Poly Weekend today through Sunday at the Holiday Inn Perimeter-Dunwoody.
Briefly defined, polyamory is having more than one intimate relationship at a time, but with the full consent and knowledge of all parties.
“One of the most common misconceptions is that polyamory is an excuse to cheat or is just all about having lots of sex,” says Billy Holder, founding member of Atlanta Poly Weekend. “In reality, polyamory is more strongly based on forming multiple simultaneous loving relationships with the full knowledge of all those involved. It can take many forms and have many styles. That’s one of the great things about polyamory – you have the freedom to build relationships in the ways that work best for you.”
About 250 to 300 people from all over North America are expected to be in attendance for the fourth annual conference, which is sponsored by the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom and hosted by the Relationship Equality Foundation.
15 presenters will conduct over 40 workshops, classes and interactive events throughout the weekend, and there will be a charity auction to benefit LGBT homeless youth organization Lost-N-Found Youth.
“It is a weekend of community building, education, and fun open to all ages and colors of the rainbow,” says Holder.
