Georgia Equality, the state’s largest LGBT political advocacy group, announced today its endorsement of Lance Rhodes for East Point City Council – Ward B. This is the third time that Rhodes has received Georgia Equality’s backing.

Georgia Equality cites the two-term councilmember’s ability to introduce and pass “several pieces of legislation that advance equality” as the motivation for the endorsement.

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund has also endorsed Rhodes for a third time.

“During my two terms in office, East Point citizens have demonstrated vision and a steadfast resolve to support equal rights within the LGBT community,” Rhodes said. “We have seen a range of actions from the adoption of Domestic Partner Benefits to the inclusion of the LGBT community in our City Charter. Georgia Equality’s mission to build a fair majority has provided the foundation necessary to realize the dream of the LGBT community to receive equal and fair opportunity.  Thank you Georgia Equality and Victory Fund for providing the resources necessary to support East Point in becoming a star for the LGBT community in Georgia. Your continued endorsement is the corner stone of our success.”

According to his biography, Rhodes is a member of Georgia Equality, the Human Rights Campaign and Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials.

East Point residents will have the opportunity to vote for Rhodes during the General Election on Nov. 8.
