Google: Stacey Abrams Most-searched Politician of 2018

What’s been a monumental year for politics across the country, has also been a game-changer in the state of Georgia. Although Democratic candidate, Stacey Abrams, didn’t take home the victory in the governors’ race, she’s been quite the talk in the world of politics.

Google announced Abrams as the most-searched politician in 2018. Google’s “Year in Search” puts Abrams ahead of other politicians like Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, and US House Member-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D- New York), in that order.

Search results for the former minority house speaker spiked when she won the Democratic primary back in May, and again just before voters headed to the polls last month. The race for Georgia governor gained national attention after Brian Kemp, then the Secretary of State was accused of voter suppression. Abrams accused Kemp of stalling 53,000 voter-registration forms under the states “exact match” law requirements.

Abrams vowed to continue fighting voter suppression after her loss through the organization she chairs, Fair Fight Action.

In an interview with the Georgia Voice, Abrams says she will not back down from protecting Georgians.

“When the legislature or Brian Kemp try to discriminate against LGBTQ* Georgians or our immigrant communities, when they refuse to expand access to critical health care, or when they threaten our education system, we will be there,” she said. “And we will leverage the grassroots power of Georgians from around the state to create extraordinary results and hold the powerful accountable.”
