JLo Shares Short Film About Her Non-binary ‘Nibling’

Pop star Jennifer Lopez recently introduced a new short film about her non-binary nibling (sister’s child) and their experience as a transgender young person and use of art as a coping mechanism.

Draw With Me follows Lopez’s nibling, Brendon Scholl, as they discuss their experience coming to terms with their gender identity and coming out to the people around them. The film features interviews with Scholl, their parents, and other family members.

Lopez shared the trailer of the film to her Instagram on Saturday (August 22) along with a message.

“The film is important and timely in its story and message and can have a huge impact on those of us who watch and experience what Brendon and their family is going through in this time of acceptance and admission,” Lopez said. “It’s a story that’s very close to my heart because it was a family affair. It’s about accepting change and challenges with love and knowing that whenever we do, anything is possible.”

In the trailer, Scholl’s mother discusses the moment when they first came out after she found a chest binder in their room.

“I said, ‘Don’t you want to be a girl,’” she recalls. “And they kinda looked at me and said, ‘I’m not a girl, Mom.’”

According to Lopez’s post, the film will be available on Video on Demand (VOD) and will be presented at film festivals.

Lopez has been a proud supporter of Scholl for years. In a 2017 Instagram post, she wrote that they were “strong and smart and loving and obviously a leader.”
