Human Rights Foundation Announces Network for LGBTQ HBCU Alumni

The Human Rights Foundation has announced it will be launching a network for LGBTQ alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), reported Gay Star News.

The announcement was made during the Human Rights Campaign’s 13th annual HBCU Summit in Atlanta.

This network is being organized in partnership with HBCU Buzz, the premier news site covering HBCUs.

“More than one million African Americans live in the United States and 3/7 percent identity as LGBTQ,” said HBCU Buzz founder Luke Lawal. “This partnership may represent those 3.7 percent statistically, but it is a step in the right direction for all of us.”

Leslie Hall, the Associate Director of HRC’s HBCU Program, expressed his excitement in this new partnership and the importance of bringing marginalized communities together in

“At a time when marginalized communities are under constant attack by anti-equality politicians, it has never been more important to share their experiences and support one another,” he said. “I’m confident this network we’re building will bring people together and add to the richness of the HBCU experience.”

HBCU interested in joining this new network can sign up here. New members of the network will also gain membership to HRC.
