Oklahoma Governor signs anti-LGBT+ law

Mary Fallin, Republican governor of Oklahoma, has signed an act which would allow religious child-service organizations to block same-sex couples from adopting children.

Fallin, a lame-duck governor, was reportedly uncommitted until recently, but decided to go along with Oklahoma Senator Greg Treat’s anti-gay act.

The Treat proposal extends the protection of law to faith-based organizations who refuse to place children in same-sex homes due to religious objections.

The Family Equality Council, a pro-family LGBT+ group, disagreed heartily with the law, and Freedom Oklahoma threatened to sue the state government.

The law will enter into effect on November 1.
