Pornhub May Buy Tumblr and Restore NSFW Content

NSFW content may be restored on Tumblr, as Pornhub is reportedly interested in buying the blogging platform and restoring allowance of pornographic content.

Verizon Communications Inc., the owner of Tumblr, is seeking to sell the site to stabilize business after struggles with meeting revenue targets, according to the Wall Street Journal. Verizon Communications currently owns several media platforms, including Yahoo!, HuffPost, and TechCrunch.

After the news of Tumblr’s potential sale broke, Buzzfeed News reported that famous porn-streaming site Pornhub is “extremely interested” in buying the social media site.

Once considered a safe space for the LGBTQ community – as well as sex workers – to share creative and NSFW content, Tumblr banned adult content and pornography after child pornography was found. The site suffered, taking an almost 30 percent plummet in site traffic after the ban.

Pornhub, if successful in acquiring the site, plans to restore NSFW content.

“Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included,” Pornhub Vice President Corey Price said. “We’ve long been dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities on the platform, leaving many individuals without an asylum through which they could comfortably peruse adult content.”

It appears Pornhub has been aware of the importance of maintaining NSFW content on the site since the ban was implemented in December. The company welcomed those looking for an NSFW safe space to their site on Twitter.

“There are obvious synergies between the two brands and value Pornhub could derive from Tumblr,” Price continued. “We’re extremely interested in acquiring the platform and are very much looking forward to one day restoring it to its former glory with NSFW content.”
