Atlanta Pride 5k

The 21st annual Atlanta Pride Run 5K put on by Frontrunners Atlanta took place Saturday, June 25, with the start and finish in Piedmont Park. More than 300 men, women and children participated in the event that raised money this year for H.E.R.O. for Children, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of children infected and affected by HIV.

The men’s overall winner was Andrew Sullivan, 22, of Atlanta, who finished the race with a time of 17:28. The women’s overall winner was Kim Feather, 42, of Atlanta, who finished with a time of 18:02. For a complete listing of results, click here. To view a photo album of the race, click here. Sylvia Rivera Transgender panel

Also on Saturday, June 25, the second annual Sylvia Rivera Transgender Community Event was held at the Phillip Rush Center. Sponsored by the Atlanta Pride Committee, the Juxtaposed Center for Transformation and Transgender Individuals Living Their Truth (TILTT), the event included four panels: legislative, art and creativity, health and wellness and youth resources. Panelists discussed everything from the requirements to get your name legally changed, how art is used to express oneself and the importance of regular checkups with physicians. Stonewall Week concludes with a party at Club Jungle

Rounding out Atlanta’s Stonewall Week celebrations was a closing night party at Club Jungle featuring drag queens and other performers marking the anniversary of the New York Stonewall Inn riot.
