Julian Bond joins HRC for marriage equality video series

Bond, the former head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), has advocated on behalf of LGBT issues in recent years and has spoken out against anti-gay churches and pastors, particularly in the African-American community. He served for 20 years in the Georgia General Assembly.

“I know a little something about fighting for what’s right and just,” Bond says in the 30-second video clip. “Gay and lesbian couples have the same value as everyone else. They should have the same right to marry as the rest of us.”

Bond joins actress Mo’Nique and Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker as participants in the series.
