Woofs owner speaks out on gay sports bar’s relocation rumors, smoking policy

Woofs owner Gary Sisney shot down rumors today about the gay sports bar relocating to the old Varsity Jr. spot on Lindbergh Drive at Cheshire Bridge Road.
“No, that’s totally false,” he told GA Voice in a phone interview. “Our lease is good for another two years so we’re not going anywhere.”
The whispers were fueled by Woofs’ smoking policy, with the allure of an outdoor smoking deck being the primary motivator behind a move. Woofs currently allows smoking inside and has no substantial outdoor smoking area besides the parking lot. The talk heated up after several gay bars and clubs changed their smoking policies in the last year.

Sisney confirmed that, regardless of the changes being made by other gay bars, Woofs has no plans to change their smoking policy.
“Hopefully the state will enact something where everyone’s treated fairly,” he said. “People have options. They can go to smoking bars and non-smoking bars. We could lose a lot of business if we went non-smoking.”
