Gay business group honor local political strategist for lifetime achievement
The Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce today announced the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award for the upcoming Community Awards Dinner Aug. 23.
Beth Shapiro, PhD, a local political activist, has worked alongside successful campaigns for several local gay and lesbian politicians, including Atlanta City Councilmember Alex Wan, former City Council President Cathy Woolard, former City Councilmember Anne Fauver and current Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner.
"Beth is such a deserving recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, and we are honored to be able to recognize her for all of the hard work, dedication and success she has achieved in her accomplished career," said Suzanne Baugh, AGLCC president, in a statement released today.
The Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s annual holiday party gets a tasty makeover for 2012. The food-themed “Out in the Kitchen” is planned for the evening of Thursday, Dec. 13.
The chamber’s holiday event is always one of the group’s biggest gatherings of the year, but the 2012 version is “a radical departure, and a new concept,” says board member Andria Towne, who is organizing the party.
“It has a cocktail/networking vibe, but we have added several LGBT or LGBT ally chefs,” she says. “Everyone loves food and there is a chef craze now. That is popular in culture now and we feel this is an unexplored niche.”
