The Atlanta Pride Committee announced the grand marshals for the 2010 Pride Parade today via a press release. Some 120 honorees will represent three categories (40 in each category) symbolizing Atlanta Pride’s 40 years.
The three categories are Legislative, Education and Community.
“As much as this is an opportunity to honor selected individuals, it is also an opportunity to provide our patrons a visual of how expansive our movement really is, and to see that there are a vast number of people working on their behalf,” said JP Sheffield, Atlanta Pride Executive Director, in the press release.
From the music of Vivaldi to the pitter-patter of little feet, Atlanta’s LGBT organizations offer up a diverse slate of events over the next two weekends.
Barry Brandon, 29, has overcome eight heart surgeries since he was a toddler and is now trying to give back to the community through his new organization, the Heart Foundation.
The Heart Foundation will hold its Inaugural Benefit Gala at The Fox Theatre on Sept. 19. The benefit includes cocktails, a catered dinner, dancing and the sneak preview of “The Tin Man Project” — a short documentary about Brandon’s eighth heart surgery when he was 27 that includes interviews with family members as well as footage of him recovering in the hospital.
Piedmont Park will host “Splish Splash Doggie Bash,” a dog-only pool party at the Piedmont Park Aquatic Center on Sept. 18. This marks the second year of the event.
Puppies will only be allowed in the pool during the time slots. No humans allowed!
There’s plenty of partying at Black Gay Pride, but be sure to make time for these community-oriented events that put a greater focus on empowerment and education.
Congratulations to the winners of this year's Community Awards presented by the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
The AGLCC announced the winners Friday night at a gala dinner at the W Midtown hotel.
