Adm. Mullen: Repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ comes down to ‘integrity’

Last night the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

Among the many topics discussed, Mullen addressed the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

"People give me a great deal of credit for this," Mullen said. "It really was, from my perspective, an integrity issue. Our military is an institution that has integrity as a value. I'm delighted that the law has changed."

‘Daily Show’ attacks McCain’s gay rights flop

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” bashed Cindy McCain and her husband, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), last night over the couple’s recent “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” flop.

Cindy McCain appeared in a recent promotional video for the NOH8 campaign where she said, "Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future.”

Sen. McCain has been an ardent supporter of the anti-gay military policy and has vowed to fight Congressional repeal with a filibuster.

Daily Show takes on anti-gay NY candidate Paladino

Carl Paladino, a candidate for governor of New York, made a few comments in recent days that have come off sounding just a bit, well, homophobic. Paladino, a Republican, is running against Andrew Cuomo in a not-so-hotly contested race.

Paladino made a statement to a group of Hasidic Jews saying that single mothers and gay men and lesbians should not teach in public schools. He also said that children would be much better off, more successful, if they “get married and raise a family.”

‘Daily Show’ weighs in on anti-gay Ga. GOP runoff

Last night’s "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" highlighted the Republican gubernatorial runoff between Karen Handel and eventual winner Nathan Deal.

The segment highlighted the endorsements Deal and Handel received in the run-up to Tuesday’s vote. Deal was endorsed by former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Handel received the backing of “Momma Grizzly” Sarah Palin.
