“Baton Bob” Jamerson today accused the Atlanta Police Department of violating his constitutional rights during a June 26 arrest in Midtown's Colony Square. He made the claim in a message posted to his personal Facebook page.
Jamerson's arrest came on the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court released rulings on two cases involving same-sex marriage rights. News of Jamerson's arrest quickly made the rounds through local news outlets.
Jamerson says the real story of how the arrest happened, and how he was treated while in custody, shows an anti-gay bias at the Atlanta Police Department and a disregard for civil liberties and constitutional rights.
Baton Bob appears to be having a hard go of it lately.
The self-proclaimed Ambassador of Mirth, Baton Bob, whose real name is Bob Jamerson, is known for his salty language and has never hid it before. And for the Fourth of July he was out celebrating his independence when he posted to his Facebook page he was angered by a "white lesbian bitch" who apparently asked for a photo during a performance.
And it goes downhill from there.

The Marietta Daily Journal published an article on Friday examining the reaction of Cobb residents in the wake of the recent U.S. Supreme Court marriage arguments and the viral Facebook profile picture-swap of red equality symbols that was impossible to miss.
The article, written by Jon Gillooly, profiles several pro-gay rights OTP'ers and closes with an interview with current Georgia Republican Party Chairperson Sue Everhart, who makes a few outlandish statements in defense of “traditional” marriage.

I love the Olympics. As long as I can remember, the Olympics have been a must-watch event for me and my family, and gave momentary inspiration that I too could be an Olympic athlete.
The London Games, however, offer a different challenge than in years passed. I still think I could find a random sport in which to achieve Olympic stardom, but as a spectator I have to decide if I want to find out results ahead of time, or wait until the American television coverage. I find I am choosing the latter.
The London Olympics are considered the first real-time Games, according to Mashable.com. NBC is hosting 3,500 hours of live coverage on nine TV channels, plus online streaming, compared to the 2,200 live hours provided from Beijing in 2008, and the 400 hours shown from Vancouver two years ago.
Anti-gay group One Million Moms returned to Facebook this week, after taking a week off to attend Vacation Bible School.
The group posted on its return:
Missed you girls! Had an amazing week at VBS (& family time)! Thank you for the prayers! Seeds were planted and many children were saved! To God Be the Glory!
It seems a targeted campaign to have One Million Moms removed from social networking site Facebook because of “hate speech” was a success. Either that, or the anti-gay group was so tired of reading pro-gay posts on its Facebook page that it voluntarily removed itself from the site.
As of this weekend, the group's Facebook page is no longer active. Links on the organization's website still direct to Facebook, only there's nothing there. Poof! Just like that, it's gone.
OMM calls itself “a network of Christian moms and grandmothers taking a stand for our children who are being exploited by the entertainment industry.” They lead a boycott charge against JC Penney over its decision to hire openly-gay Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson. They weren't too happy when the retailer included a happily married gay couple in its Father's Day catalog either. Oh, and don't get them started on the gay Green Lantern.
A Facebook group is urging Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to "evolve" and come out in support of gay marriage as President Barack Obama did Wednesday.
But in a statement, Reed said he is still "wrestling" with his support of full marriage equality. His full statement:
I respect President Obama’s decision to stand in support of marriage equality. I have fought hard for the rights of gays and lesbians my entire political career from protecting adoption rights for gay and lesbian families, to voting against Georgia’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage as a state senator, to serving as the state house sponsor for the only hate crimes bill ever passed in the state of Georgia.
It's becoming harder and harder to ignore memes on the internet these days. From Facebook to Tumblr, Twitter and beyond, memes have all but taken over the internet.
This week's meme of the week, our first-ever, comes courtesy of the Illinois Safe Schools Coalition, though Inappropriate timing Bill Clinton came in a very, very close second. Something tells us we'll be seeing a few parodies of this inspirational video in the coming days:
