Republican Meghan McCain, whose father lost to President Barack Obama four years ago, chatted with Anderson Cooper on his live TV show today and praised both legalizing marijuana and the passage of marriage equality in Maryland and Maine.
"If I want to smoke weed responsibly, it's nobody's business," McCain tells Cooper.
She also was pleased with marriage equality being passed in Maryland and Maine, calling it a "silver lining" of last night's election in which President Obama defeated Republican Gov. Mitt Romney.
Meghan McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain, will speak at Kennesaw State University on March 14 and will discuss gay marriage among other issues. She will also speak at Columbus State University on March 15.
Despite her father's opposition to gay marriage and his strenuous opposition to the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," McCain has risen as a star within the Republican Party as one of the few outspoken GOPers to support marriage equality.
McCain is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, "Dirty Sexy Politics: A True Story" and is a columnist for the The Daily Beast.
