One of the oldest feminist bookstores in the nation was hit with anti-gay graffiti the night it held a standing room only literary event as part of its "Stride into Pride" for Atlanta Pride activities.
Lesbian-owned Charis Books & More, which turns 39 in November and is one of the last remaining feminist bookstores in North America, had anti-gay and anti-women graffiti spray painted on the side of its building Thursday night after a successful literary event, "Stride Into Pride: Atlanta Literary All Star Showcase."
Fulton County prosecutors said an apparent jealous rage led Danielle Parker to shoot and kill her ex-girlfriend, an East Point police officer, over the Fourth of July weekend.
At a preliminary hearing today, Fulton Judge Karen Smith Woodson found probable cause on counts of malice murder, felony murder, felony assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony against Danielle Parker, charged with killing Crystal Parker, a decorated East Point corporal who Officer of the Year for 2010-2012. A bond hearing is set for Aug. 7.
Danielle Parker, who sat in during today's preliminary hearing wearing a blue Fulton County jail jumpsuit and shackled at the wrists and waist, is accused of killing East Point Cpl. Crystal Parker during the early morning hours of July 4; Crystal Park's body was discovered July 7. Danielle Parker was arrested and charged with the killing on July 9. Her defense attorney is Stanley Constant.
The gay man known as Baton Bob who loves to twirl a baton in a tutu while strutting Atlanta's streets was arrested today by the Atlanta Police Department after an alleged altercation with a security guard at Colony Square in Midtown.
APD spokesperson Carlos Campos explained what happened in a statement this evening:
"The preliminary information available on this incident seems to indicate that Bob Jamerson, who performs on the street as 'Baton Bob,' was arrested around noon today after reports of a verbal altercation with security guards at 1197 Peachtree Street. An off-duty Atlanta Police officer working for Midtown Blue was called and made the arrest. Arrest warrants were secured from a Magistrate Court judge and Mr. Jamerson was charged with simple assault and obstruction of a law enforcement officer," he said.
A transsexual woman arrested April 7 in Savannah, Ga., is claiming she was harassed by police officers after she was charged with indecent exposure.
A police report from the Savannah Police Department states Ashley Del Valle, who said she was visiting Savannah from New York, had her breasts exposed and nipples showing.
Savannah police and the Chatham County Sheriff's Department deny handling the case unprofessionally.
Former Atlanta Police Sgt. Willie Adams, a supervisor of the unconstitutional raid on the Atlanta Eagle, won an appeal in court today in his attempt to get his job back with the APD.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Kelly Lee ruled in Adams' favor in his attempt to get back on the Atlanta police force where he was a 20-year veteran before being fired in the midst of the Eagle raid scandal. His firing was upheld in 2011 by the city's Civil Service Board and then appealed to court.
Officer Brian Sharp, one of the two Atlanta Police Department's LGBT liaisons, is asking for your help. Not to track a thief, but to fund a record album already titled "Against the Grain" he hopes to make this summer.
Sharp unveiled his Kickstarter campaign on Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday and is seeking to raise $5,000 in two months to record an EP with at least six songs on it. He's asking people donate in $25, $150 and a $1,000 VIP gift. Those who give at all levels will receive a signed copy of the CD, those who give $150 will also get a t-shirt. And those who donate $1,000 will get to go to Nashville, Tenn., with Sharp and watch as he records his debut CD.
