[Updated] New Year’s Eve stabbing provoked by anti-gay slur?

Atlanta police are investigating whether the 19-year-old man accused of stabbing five people at a New Year’s Eve party in the Atlanta neighborhood of Reynoldstown may have been the target of an anti-gay slur during a confrontation at the late-night celebration.

The suspect is identified by Atlanta police as Luke O’Donovan. The stabbing occurred sometime after 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day at 239 Gibson St., Atlanta Police Department Spokesperson Carlos Campos told GA Voice today.

Gay Atlanta rabbi discusses New Year’s resolutions with CNN

Rabbi Joshua Lesser of Atlanta’s Congregation Bet Haverim was a guest on CNN to talk about ways to include faith-based resolutions as we ring in 2013 tonight.

Lesser, who is openly gay (and a proud gym enthusiast), praises working on physical fitness as a resolution. But faith is also something we can work on, he said.

Fitness advice from an ‘unapologetic fat girl’ presented at Charis on Jan. 5

As the author of a book titled “The Unapologetic Fat Girl’s Guide to Exercise,” Hanne Blank is not one to make a New Year’s resolution to lose 10, 15, 20 or however many pounds. She reads and signs this book  at Charis Books & More on Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Charis Circle’s Founding Future of Feminism Program and a $5 suggested donation is asked.
