Southern Fried Queer Pride Launches $20,000 Fundraising Effort

Southern Fried Queer Pride is working to raise $20,000 now through December 25.

The non-profit, which works to empower queer and trans people of color in the South through the arts, will be raising funds to cover event costs like paying organizers and performers, space rentals, and materials and accessibility materials including masks and PPE, accessibility aids, ASL interpretation for events, and a portable ramp. The money will also help support new mutual and legal aid resources.

This fundraising effort comes after the organization announced it lost the space for CLUTCH Community Center in September. SFQP had to break the five-year lease they signed because they “experienced a series of aggressive attacks from the landlords – from delaying permits to refusing to meet the agreed-upon building codes,” thus losing $21,000 in raised funds for inspections, architectural work, and permits. CLUTCH was set to be a Black queer- and trans-owned brick-and-mortar space for the LGBTQ community to commune, heal, and build by offering artist studios, performance venues, community meeting spaces, and a community garden.

To support SFQP’s work, you can offer either a one-time donation through PayPal (PayPal.me/sfqpdonate), Venmo (@sfqpatl), or Cash App ($sfqpatl). If donating through Venmo or Cash App, SFQP requests you write “donate” in the memo line. You can also become a monthly donor to sustain SFQP’s work throughout the year here.

SFQP will also be hosting two fundraising events on December 13: a flash tattoo sale with Afterglow Tattoos – with details to be announced – and a Freaky Friday Queer Dance Party at Star Bar, featuring DJ sets by Abby Dea, Ectopus, and TAYLOR ALXNDR. Get tickets to Freaky Friday at sfqp.info/ff1213.

“It take a village to help Southern Fried Queer Pride keep going,” the organization wrote on Instagram, “and with YOUR help, we can make 2025 certified and fried with events, spaces, and resources for all to enjoy!”
