Expert Shares Fashion Dos and Don’ts This Festival Season

Ready to catch the headliner’s attention?

As festival season kicks off, it’s time to think about what to wear to ensure you not only look stylish but also feel comfortable throughout the event. Attending a festival isn’t just about enjoying great music, art, and company—it’s also a chance to showcase your unique style.

While it’s tempting to go all out with your festival fashion, it’s important to balance fashion with practicality to make the most of the experience without discomfort.

Jarred Abbott, from A2Z Events, offers his expertise on the dos and don’ts of festival attire to help you stay stylish and comfortable as we enter the festival season.

Why Fashion at Festivals Matters

Festival fashion is a form of self-expression, where creativity knows no bounds.

“Your outfit can set the tone for your festival experience, making you feel confident and ready to embrace the festivities,” Jarred says.

However, prioritizing comfort is essential.

Spending long hours outdoors, often in unpredictable weather conditions, requires practical fashion choices.

Striking the right balance between style and comfort ensures you can dance, walk, and enjoy every moment without discomfort.

Dos for Festival Attire

Do: Opt for Breathable Fabrics

Choose clothing made from natural, breathable materials like cotton, linen, or bamboo. These fabrics allow air to flow freely, keeping you cool and comfortable even in warm weather.

Do: Wear Supportive Footwear

Pick shoes that offer good support and comfort, such as sneakers, sandals with arch support, or well-worn boots. Since you’ll be on your feet for extended periods, it’s crucial to prioritize comfort.

Do: Layer Your Outfit

Prepare for changing weather by layering your clothing. Start with a breathable base layer, add a lightweight sweater or jacket, and top it off with a waterproof outer layer. This way, you can easily adjust your outfit to stay comfortable.

Do: Bring an Oversized Jacket or Shirt

Oversized clothing is not only trendy but also practical for festivals. Whether it’s denim, camo, checked, or pinstripe, an oversized jacket or shirt can provide comfort and versatility.

Do: Incorporate Fringe into Your Look

Adding fringe to your outfit can give it a playful and eye-catching element, ensuring your look stands out and gets extra attention.

Do: Embrace Denim

Denim pieces like cut-off shorts, jeans, jackets, and shirts are festival staples. They’re versatile, stylish, and easy to mix and match, making them a reliable choice for any festival-goer.

Don’ts for Festival Attire

Don’t: Wear Heavy Fabrics

Avoid materials like leather or thick polyester, which can trap heat and make you uncomfortable. Stick to lighter, breathable fabrics to stay cool.

Don’t: Choose New or High-Heeled Shoes

Refrain from wearing new shoes or high heels, as they can cause blisters and discomfort. Instead, opt for well-broken-in shoes that you know are comfortable.

Don’t: Wear Suede, Fur, or Leather

Skip suede, fur, or leather items, as they don’t handle heat, rain, or spilled drinks well. Save these materials for accessories like bags instead.

Don’t: Neglect the Essentials

Always bring essentials like sun cream, a festival-friendly water bottle, a power bank, and hand sanitizer. Good self-care is always in style.

Don’t: Wear Anything Too Tight or Neon Bright

Leave the overly tight or neon-bright clothing at home. These styles can be uncomfortable and aren’t the best choice for a festival environment.

Jarred says, “Fashion is an art form, a way to express our dreams and individuality. However, at festivals, practicality and comfort should also guide our fashion choices.”

By following these dos and don’ts, you can create a festival look that not only turns heads but also lets you enjoy every moment in comfort.
