The Marietta Daily Journal published an article on Friday examining the reaction of Cobb residents in the wake of the recent U.S. Supreme Court marriage arguments and the viral Facebook profile picture-swap of red equality symbols that was impossible to miss.

The article, written by Jon Gillooly, profiles several pro-gay rights OTP’ers and closes with an interview with current Georgia Republican Party Chairperson Sue Everhart, who makes a few outlandish statements in defense of “traditional” marriage.’

$31,000 raised for Atlanta’s LGBT Rush Center

The Phillip Rush Center begins expansion plans Monday into an approximate 1,700 square foot space in a building located directly behind its current location in Candler Park thanks to more than $31,000 raised at a reception on Saturday.

Linda Ellis, executive director of the Health Initiative, is co-director of the Rush Center with Jeff Graham, executive director of Georgia Equality. She explained Saturday that the expansion was needed because the Rush Center has outgrown its space at 1530 DeKalb Ave. as more and more LGBT organizations, such as the Rainbow Center, which serves and advocates for LGBT Jewish people and families, seek permanent office space. The expansion is also to meet the needs of a statewide survey of LGBT residents.

Atlanta gay couple makes Ebony’s ‘coolest black family’ list

Atlanta’s own Bishop Oliver Clyde Allen III and his husband Rashad Burgess, along with their newly adopted daughter Caylee LaTanya Burgess-Allen, come in at No. 10  of Ebony magazine’s Coolest Black Family in America list.

Allen and Burgess were featured in the GA Voice in February along with several other couples giving tips on what works, and what doesn’t, in a relationship.

Atlanta drag legend Ashley Kruiz remembered for generosity, beauty

Ashley Kruiz, a renowned drag star who held numerous pageant titles, died March 31, 2013, in Atlanta after a long illness. Kruiz was 47.

Kruiz was born Gary Dale Johnson on April 30, 1965, in Frankfort, Ky. His best friend and life partner was at his side at Grady Hospital when he died on Easter Sunday.

Transgender strip night to take over XS Ultra Lounge Wednesdays

 

Black Diamond Atlanta Transgender Gentlemen's Club

In what might be a first for Atlanta, a new transgender strip night will soon take over XS Ultra Lounge Wednesday nights. The weekly event, billed as “Black Diamond Atlanta Transgender Gentlemen’s Club,” kicks off with a preview night April 24.

With two Pink Pony locations, a plethora of options on Cheshire Bridge and at least two all-male strip clubs, Atlanta is no stranger to adult entertainment.
