Atlanta Dream prepare to take on Seattle Storm in the WNBA Finals

The Atlanta Dream face the Indiana Fever in the series-clinching Game 3 of the 2011 WNBA Eastern Conference Finals tonight. The Fever won the first game of the three-game series, but the Dream stormed back and comfortably won Game 2 by 17 points.

Tonight's game will decide who will play in the WNBA Championship series against the Minnesota Lynx.

The Dream are the reigning Eastern Conference champions. Last year, the women faced off against the Seattle Storm in the finals but were swept in three games.

To some in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities, Sheryl Swoopes is a “lie-sexual.”

Swoopes — the three-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time MVP of the Women’s National Basketball Association — is just another sister-girl on the “down low” announcing the incredulous news that she’s now engaged to marry a man.

To incurable homophobes, especially of the fundamentalist Christian variety who pedal their rhetoric that homosexuality is curable with reparative theories, Swoopes is the prodigal daughter who has finally found her way away from homosexuality and home to Jesus.

To many of my heterosexual African -merican brothers, Chris Unclesho, the man Swoopes is engaged to marry, is the man! A bona fide “dyke whisperer” who has turned Swoopes out to the sexual joys of what it is to be with a man.

Atlanta Dream prepare to take on Seattle Storm in the WNBA Finals

The Atlanta Dream, the city’s professional women's basketball team, will join the Human Rights Campaign to host a meet-and-greet with players and team executives on Friday, Aug. 19.

Fans will have an opportunity to mingle with members of the 2010 Eastern Conference Championship team for about an hour before the game. Tickets, with a special promotion code, have been reduced to $15 (use promo code “HRC” when purchasing tickets for discounted rate).

The Dream will play against Eastern Conference rivals the Connecticut Sun starting at 7:30 p.m.

An after-party for attendees will take place at Bellissima.

Atlanta Dream in the draft

The Atlanta Dream is busy preparing for the upcoming 2011 season that kicks off in early June. But today, the city's professional women's basketball team is in the thick of the 2011 WNBA Draft.

It doesn't look like phenom Maya Moore will be available by the time the Dream takes its first pick. Atlanta has the eighth overall selection.

Team COO Toby Wyman is live-tweeting today's draft. Wyman and the team's official Twitter page, are giving fans an insightful look behind the scenes.

The WNBA is hosting a live chat session on its homepage, as well.

It was a disappointing end to a great season for the Atlanta Dream after claiming their first-ever Eastern Conference Championship.

The Dream lost game three of the best-of-five series in Atlanta last night after starting the first two games in Seattle. The Seattle Storm completed the series sweep and claimed their second championship by winning game three 87 - 84.

In the end, the Storm’s Lauren Jackson, named the Finals MVP, was too much for the Dream to handle. Jackson, Seattle’s center, put up impressive numbers in points, rebounds and blocks throughout the series. Seattle maintained a perfect record throughout the 2010 playoffs.

The Atlanta Dream advance to the WNBA Eastern Conference Finals

Atlanta’s women’s professional basketball team, the Atlanta Dream, advanced out of the first round of the WNBA playoffs Friday night after beating the Washington Mystics 101-77.

2010 is the second consecutive year that the Dream have made the playoffs in their three-year history. Friday’s win against the Mystics, however, was the first post-season series victory for the team.

The Atlanta Dream will face off against the Washington Mystics this Wednesday in the opening round of the 2010 WNBA playoffs.

Lead by forward Angel McCoughtry, the Dream finished fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 19-15 regular season record. 2010 marks the second straight year the Dream will contest the post-season.
