Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus Extends Virtual Holiday Performance

The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus has extended virtual performances of its hit holiday concert with encore presentations on Dec. 20, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The concert will be live streamed at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, and the choir will offer encore presentations at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24 and 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 25.

“After our shows we always have people who say, ‘I wish you could do this concert again so my husband/sister/mother/friend could see it!’” Donald Milton III, the Artistic Director of the AGMC, said in a statement. “In the normal world remounting a concert of this magnitude is nearly impossible but in this strange time it’s something we can do for people. This concert brought joy and beauty and a feeling of normalcy to everyone who got to see it and we want to share it with an even bigger audience.”

“I’ve seen most of these songs dozens of times and I’ve watched the concert all the way through five times now and I can’t wait to watch it again,” he continued. “With every viewing I’ve cried, I’ve laughed out loud, and I’ve smiled until my face hurt. I’m so wildly proud of the art we were able to create in the most difficult of circumstances and of the men who gave it their all. Recording virtual choirs is challenging but seeing the finished product is absolutely amazing.”

Viewers of the concert will hear holiday classics like “O Holy Night” and “Frosty the Snowman” and long-time AGMC favorites like “Betelehemu” and “Over the Skies of Yisrael.” And, as always, the chorus will bring the holiday laughter with “Super Gay Christmas” and “Recycle the Fruitcake.”

“This concert isn’t just us trying to do the same thing we’ve been doing for four decades, but we’re thinking outside the box to create something that is innovative and powerful while holding onto what makes the AGMC holiday concerts so special,” Milton said. “I’m so proud of the way these incredible singers have approached this wildly different way of music making! I know our over 1,500 holiday concert regulars will love this show and I’m very excited to share this Atlanta tradition with people all over Georgia and all over the country!”
