Councilmember Wan: Hey, Midtown, move your cars off the street

Atlanta City Councilmember Alex Wan sent out an e-mail asking that residents move their cars off the streets so the city’s neighborhood roads could begin to be cleared of snow and ice.

Wan, who is gay, represents District 6, home to Midtown and many of the city’s gay residents and businesses.

Wan’s statement read:

“We are asking the citizens of Atlanta to IMMEDIATELY remove their vehicle from the city streets (both legally parked/abandoned vehicles) so efforts can be made to clean the snow/ice off the roadway. The equipment being used is heavy equipment; if vehicles are left on the roadway they may become damaged as these trucks are attempting to clean the roadway.”

GA Equality calls for action against Chick-fil-A anti-gay donations

Georgia Equality weighed in on the Chick-fil-A donation controversy this afternoon by posting a link to a petition hosted on advocacy website Change.org calling for the fast food chain to cease donations to anti-gay groups, including Focus on the Family.

The fast food chain has been accused of donating to other groups, such as the Pennsylvania Family Institute, an organization that attacks the “homosexual lifestyle.”

Georgia Equality wrote on its Facebook page:

“Change.org continues to pressure Chick-fil-A. You can sign their petition using this link.”

Comedian, author Roseanne Barr visits Outwrite Wednesday

Roseanne Barr comes to Outwrite Bookstore and Coffeehouse

Roseanne Barr, comedian, author and now farmer, has written a third book, "Roseannearchy: Dispatches from the Nut Farm," and visits Atlanta next week.

Gay and straight fans of the the star will have a chance to meet the actress and author in Atlanta when she drops in at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. for a book signing.

Let's hope the roads are completely cleared by then so Roseanne can make a safe trip to the city. Read about how those looking to cure their cabin fever caused by the major snow storm that hit Atlanta this week made their way to Outwrite, which has remained open throughout.

Last night the comedian/actress/author/farmer appeared on "Chelsea Lately" to discuss how she loves drinking while writing, which, she says, helps bring out the inspiration.

It’s a New Year, and the perfect time to admit that I am powerless. I think I have hit rock bottom.

But I have given it a lot of thought and decided I don’t want any help. I want to keep on chasing the intoxicating traveler’s high. I can make a three-night trip into a month-long binge of trip preparation pleasure. And there is absolutely nothing I want to do about it.

There is something very captivating and alluring that happens when you move from occasional to frequent traveler. You start getting into predictable and intensely enjoyable patterns of vacation preparation. I can’t stop with the almost continual, methodical planning and daydreaming that get me closer to the pay off of finally walking out my door and beginning the trip.

First I get immense satisfaction during the packing ritual. I binge for a week. Every day at work I fantasize about getting home and looking at my stuff. Do I want to take this, do I want to take that? I put all my possible travel companions in their own area and mull them all over for the next few days. I then start weeding out. I have some favorite things that every time I pack I include because they are my really favorite things. But they always end up staying home.
