Milledgeville church sign calls for death to gay people

A Milledgeville church has a virulently anti-gay sign up saying that gay people should be put to death.

WGXA reports that the sign for The Ten Commandments church reads “Homosexuality is a Death Worthy Crime.”

“This is the first time that I have ever seen anything that actually crossed the line and was inferring death upon a group,” Milledgeville resident Robert Owens tells WGXA. Owens noticed the sign while riding his bike through town.

“If it said being bald or blind or short or fat or blue-eyed or red head, if any of those were death worthy crimes, if they were causing people think ‘wow those people really need to die’ that’s a terrible thing, that’s crossing line,” said Owens, who says he says he has gay and lesbian friends.

The pastor responsible for the sign claims nothing is wrong with it and referenced Leviticus 20:13 to a reporter.

“Homosexuality is an abomination, and the Bible says that homosexuality is a death worthy crime,” said Lee, who also claimed he hopes the Supreme Court is paying attention to his sign as they decide on the issue of marriage equality.

“The institution of marriage was instituted by God and it should not be changed by people who deserve not to live,” Lee told WGXA.
