Joan Garner, Fulton County Commissioner-elect for District 6, is holding a public celebration of her runoff victory today from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. at Pizzeria Vesuvias.
Garner won the Aug. 10 runoff against Keisha Waites to become the first openly gay Fulton commissioner. Waites is also an open lesbian.
A suggested contribution of $100 is requested to alleviate campaign debt.
“Each of us understands the importance that electing Joan to this position will have on the many, many areas of governance for Fulton County,” said Ken Britt, the campaign’s treasurer and one of the organizers of the event, in a statement.
“While we are celebrating, we do have the reality of campaign debt to retire. We are committed to helping Joan retire this debt so she can immediately begin to focus on issues facing Fulton County,” he added. Britt is the retired executive director of Alston & Bird, LLP.
