Jen Keeton, 24, is a graduate student studying counseling. According to court documents, ASU faculty threatened to expel her “simply because she has communicated both inside and outside the classroom that she holds to Christian ethical convictions on matters of human sexuality and gender identity.” Keeton is being represented by the Alliance Defense Fund, which has a long history of taking on anti-gay cases.

ASU faculty are accused of forcing Keeton to “submit to supplemental curriculum hostile to her belief” and “alter her beliefs” or face expulsion.

According to case documents:

“Miss Keeton is a Christian, and her convictions concerning human nature, the purpose and meaning of life, and the ethical standards that are to govern human conduct are drawn from the counsel presented in the Holy Bible. So also is her Christian faith the source of motivation for her professional pursuit to encourage and assist young students.

“Further, she has expressed her view that homosexuality is a “lifestyle,” not a “state of being.””
