Georgia Equality, the statewide LGBT political group, issued the following endorsements for today’s runoff elections.
Today’s election concludes races that were left undecided by the Nov. 2 general election. A runoff is held between the top two vote getters when neither receives 50 percent plus one vote. Given the traditionally small turnout in runoffs, LGBT voters could play a key role in helping these candidates win election, according to Georgia Equality.
In a Facebook message, the LGBT political group focused on judicial races on today’s ballot:
“If we stand together and pledge to go to the polls and cast our vote, we can help shape the GA Supreme Court and help elect fair minded judges to the State Superior Court and the State Court of Appeals. Every one of the cases that these judges will hear is important to the individual parties involved; and many have implications for the larger community, including the LGBT community,” the group said. “Please consider the importance of these Judicial races, and what they could mean for LGBT individuals and families.”
