Watch queer Georgia state Rep. Park Cannon’s Democratic convention address

“I’m Park Cannon. I am a woman. I’m African-American. I’m queer. And I am the newest member of the Georgia House of Representatives.”

So went the opening line of remarks by openly queer Georgia state Rep. Park Cannon (D-Atlanta) on Wednesday evening at the Democratic National Convention. Cannon was part of a group of five diverse American speakers who each gave brief remarks. Included was director Robert Rodriguez, Jeff Grube of the Aqua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Debbie Almontaser of the Khalil Gibran International Academy and YouTuber Dulce Candy.

Cannon posted this picture with the group to her Facebook page Wednesday afternoon after getting done with rehearsal.

Day three gavel in is in 5 minutes! I just finished rehearsal and will be taking the stage at 6 PM EDT. I'll be speaking…

“I ran for office because I represent the rainbow of voices that too often went unheard in our state Capitol,” Cannon also said in her speech. “We need to trust black women. Our America is unapologetically ready to stand together.”
