There’s no doubt Gov. Nathan Deal is far from a friend to LGBT people. He ran one of the most — if not the most — anti-gay campaign in the state’s history.

His homophobia reared its ugly head again on the International Day Against Homophobia, recognized in Atlanta and around the world on May 17.

Pastor Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., is about to feel the wrath of the internet. The somewhat inaudible, backwoods preacher man has an idea for dealing with gays and lesbians in the wake of President Barack Obama’s announcement of his support for same-sex marriage. Spoiler alert: Worley is an ass.

“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers but it couldn’t get it passed through Congress,” Worley says in an epic rant suitable for “Deliverance.”

Atlanta Freedom Bands head ‘South of the Border’ for Saturday concert

In the mood for a fiesta? The gay Atlanta Freedom Bands perform “South of the Border,” featuring songs from Central and South America, on Saturday, May 19, at Saint Mark United Methodist Church.

The 8 p.m. concert features the full band as well as six chamber ensembles.

Meme of the Week: Too Damn High

Political activist Jimmy McMillan rose to national prominence during the 2010 gubentaroial election in New York as the founder of the “Rent is Too Damn High Party.” His catchphrase, “The rent is too damn high!” was meant to spark economic reforms in the world’s financial capitol but has since been co-opted as an internet meme.

This week’s Meme of the Week honors disco legend, and gay icon Donna Summer, who passed away earlier this week after losing her battle with cancer. Summer was 63.
