Fifty Shades author EL James hinted at the possibility of writing a gay romance BDSM novel in an interview with The Times.
James is best known for her erotic series exploring the romantic and sexual relationship between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. However, she teased she may move to writing gay couples, instead.
The author said she had been receiving copious messages from not only gay men but women as well requesting a series spotlighting a gay relationship. She said the series may be a possibility: “Never say never.”
She noted that the dynamics of the book would be completely different, because of the removal of gender-influenced power imbalances, which she found interesting.
However, James maintained that her priority is primarily writing for an audience of women.
“Writing for women, entertaining women – because that’s exactly what I want to do – is probably one of the most feminist things I’ve ever done,” she said.
In 2014, the trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey, the first installment of the series, was parodied by lesbian YouTube channel UnsolicitedProject into “Fifty Shades of Gay.” In the parody, leading man Christian Grey is now Miss Gay, a lesbian business exec.
