The LGBT Caucus of the DPG will host a fundraiser on Oct. 25 that will benefit the Victory 2010 Coordinated Campaign at The Peachtree Club. Special guests include former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, U.S. Senate candidate Michael Thurmond and gubernatorial hopeful Roy Barnes.
“The LGBT vote isn’t just important to Democrats, it’s important to Georgia,” Matt Weyandt, executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia, said in a press release. “We all saw the ads this summer – the Republicans are too busy scoring cheap political points at the expense of hard-working LGBT Georgians to govern. When it comes to important issues such as hate crimes protections or funding for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, we need strong, proven leaders to stand for Georgians, not against them.”
